What a challenge!

16 Jun 2009

21 intrepid, exhausted and rather grubby women passed the Finish line on Thursday 24th September, heading for a much needed shower in Swakopmund.

It was an incredible challenge. We encountered scorpions, the deadly Puff Adder snake, giant spiders and hyenas or jackals (nobody dared get out of their tents to check!)  scavenging in the camp in the early hours. At the latest count we had 45 blisters between us and 5 cases of sun stroke in temperatures of 41 degrees on the first day. Fortunately we were all well taken care of by Albert the Trek Medic who kept everyone alive and healthy. Faan, Clifton and Kennedy created magical camps every evening, each one more spectacular than the last. We will never forget the sight of the Ugap Riverbed camp in the far distance which motivated us to dig deep and zig zag down the steep cliffs of the river gorge. Kobus our guide shared his passion for Namibia and taught us the meaning of the phrase "The greatest distance is between your ears".

Thank you to everyone who shared this memorable experience!
